“Over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house we go…” The annual theme song for the family holiday road trip. The gang packs into the car with the gifts, homemade desserts and the dog all in tow. The six hour drive with it’s familiar pit stops is just that-familiar. The aroma from the homemade biscuits and the family pokeno game after dessert is not as appealing this year because the thought has crossed your mind a thousand times; you want to try something different, possibly a cruise for Christmas.
A cruise would be the perfect gift for the entire family. “…The Love Boat promises something for everyone…” Not only for Princess Cruise Lines but most cruise ships are equipped with the “extras” to exceed your needs. From shipboard I-phones, luxurious spas, cooking classes and Broadway shows, the amenities on these ships are amazing. Looking for couple time, many of the vessels have babysitting options available. Some ships even have teen clubs-for the children that are too mature for the Mickey Mouse Club, but still too young to be unsupervised.
The halls are decked from top to bottom with Christmas trees, wreathes, and other holiday greenery. Just imagine Christmas carolers singing Jingle Bells in 80 degree weather while you are enjoying the ocean view from your private balcony; and posting pictures on Facebook posing with Santa in your bathing suit at the pool deck. Snow is nowhere in sight, unless your ship is equipped with faux flakes to make the experience even more realistic.
My favorite part of cruising is the food. Cruising is an awesome option just for the meal plan. Cruise ships have numerous kitchens and various dining options from casual to “reservation only” meals. Typically passengers can find something to snack on 24 hours a day. Cooking a holiday spread is a labor of love for your family and friends-the thought of not making that sweet potato casserole is getting more attractive. A buffet of your favorite holiday foods is calling your name from the main dining room.
With so many cruise line options available, how do you determine which cruise to choose? I suggest calling a travel professional that specializes in cruises. The representative should be able to guide you in making the best decision that is suitable for your family. If you are a last minute traveler as I am, you still have time to plan and you may even get a good deal.
Change is always refreshing. Consider a cruise for Christmas if you are looking for a stress free, relaxing getaway and the creation of new holiday memories.
