The scripture at Matthew 25:35 states: “For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me”. The Hip-Hop group, from Baltimore-Maryland, known as B-N-C, which stands for Brothers N-Christ, they are here to give refreshment to the masses with a spiritual message.
“We grew up on Hip-Hop music. So coming together to do something that we enjoy but at the same time use this platform to speak about real issues especially when it has to do with our love of Christ, was not that hard to do. We are Christian men and not ashamed of it” states group member Mitchell Bennett. Other members of the group consist of Mike Body and Devin Harney.
B-N-C just dropped a project entitled Weight of The World. “There is a lot of responsibility with being Christians and being role models. We know that people are looking at us more because of what we stand for. That does not mean that we don’t go through things. This CD covers a lot of topics that affect all of us” says Mike Body.
The first single, Never Say Goodbye, features the lyrical skills of Body and Mitchell, with Devin, the vocalist of the group, dropping smooth vocals on a track that deals with the topic of losing a loved one. The head nodding track will have you stop and reflect on ones that you loved and lost, maybe even make you stop and think about your life now never taking life for granted.
The gem of Weight of The World is the song The Garden. The Garden is that love song that is pure and comes from that heart which every woman should appreciate. According to Devin,”Many people think being a Christian that we don’t have feelings or emotions but we do. We all want to find that someone special. So this song is about expressing that feeling for a woman that you would want to be with forever”.
B-N-C stays true to their name by inviting other Maryland Artist to be part of the experience: Jarell Johnson, Faith Williams, B.Eveready, JW aka The Preacher, and Exalt Reigns. Many in the church will feel that this is blasphemy using RAP MUSIC for talking about God and Christ but these Brothers sum it up best “Rap music is only a form of entertainment. However, the hope is that the listener’s interest is peaked and would want to learn more about the gospel of Christ by studying the Bible. We are a Christian Rap Group; our sole purpose is to use our talents to glorify God and to use our gifts to bring others to Christ”.
