Maulien is one of the best new voices of Hip-Hop that you may not have heard about yet. Born Jamal Hunter, Maulien is a student at Delaware State University. His music doesn’t talk about the same ghetto rhetoric of toting guns, drug dealing or negative stereotypes. Maulien is well grounded and lets his music do the talking.
“When it comes to hip-hop, I believe that I can offer various styles, messages, and compose good music for the people. Also, I believe that I have a great voice for hip-hop and my culture, so I only strive to be great,” Maulien says.
Maulien got involved in the music business by watching his father and uncle make music as a child in the studio. “From that moment,” he says, “I knew it was something I could see myself doing for a long time.”
Maulien has two projects that are currently available for fans to enjoy.
According to Maulien, the album titled “The Experience” is exactly what it is titled. “I spent a lot of time trying new things for this project. I had a great time creating the project over this past year. I produced the music and composed lyrics on this project.”
Maulien says the project is special because his father acted as co-producer. “My favorite songs on this project are “A Tribute” and “Take Off.” To me it will always be a special project because my dad and I worked together, and one day I can share that type of bond or experience with my son.”
Maulien has also completed a mix tape titled, “To: Senses, From: The Heart” which is strictly for hip-hop lovers, some favorites off this mix tape would be “The Commission” and “Imagery.”
So where does Maulien see himself in the music business? “I see myself potentially getting signed one day to a label and making great music. From there I’ll be able to open other doors for myself, and others. Most importantly, I just want to put myself in the right position that will help me, and my family. As long as I can make a career out of it and do something positive for others, I’m good.”
