If you are ever on Facebook, you will notice there are plenty of people who call themselves writers or authors. Today’s new group of authors, while they are to be commended for stepping out to write and to publish a book, it seems their thought is more on making money, then on actually writing something of quality. New kid on the block, Thomas N. Pointer, Jr. understands this point very well. “First and foremost, I love to read. I am an avid reader. I may read four to five books a week. I love history, biographies, and mystery-suspense novels. There is a process for me. It has to be well written, well edited and it has to make sense,” Pointer said.
Pointer’s desire is to write the type of books that people will want to read. This is the reason he chose the mystery/suspense genre. It’s that love of reading a well-written novel that has driven him to write about the character, Benjamin Bishop, the first in a series featuring the private investigator.
Reading books and keeping a journal prepared Pointer to write his first novel. Writers like Chester Himes, (Rage in Harlem) played an important role in shaping Pointer’s writing style. Some of his other favorites include Robert B. Parker, Walter Mosley and Randall Robinson.
When Dark Secrets Get Darker tells the story of private investigator Benjamin Bishop in Baltimore, Maryland. Bishop is about the money— no job is too big or too small. When Bishop takes a job to find out who murdered a prominent businessman, this is where the story gets interesting. There are a series of events that makes Bishop consider what is REALLY right or wrong. As you read the book, you are prompted to think about what TRUTH and justice really are?
As the book states, the battle between good and evil is a subject that we can all relate to.
When Dark Secrets Get Darker is a page-turner for sure. It will keep you guessing and it will also make you think about things that you may not have thought about before.
